For the last two years, helveticka has been working with Integrus Architecture and Spokane Public Library on the “Imagine the Library of the Future” project – a vision for the library’s facilities that not only expands capacity, but also adds forward-thinking spaces and services. In addition to four remodels, the project comprises three new buildings, one of which is The Hive on East Sprague Avenue. helveticka designed both interior and exterior signage and wayfinding for the facility, a non-traditional home for artists in residence, public event spaces, and educational programs for public school professionals. Taking cues from the surrounding post-war commercial neighborhood, a two-sided neon sign signals the building’s north entry point; 12-foot-tall pan-channel letters identify the building along a busy thoroughfare. Inside, a hand-painted mural greets entering visitors with the message “Arrive Curious, Leave Inspired.” helveticka also provided oversight of sign fabrication and installation.
