OUR WORKFORCE AND BUSINESS PARTNERS
As of December 31, 2013, we employed approximately 2,000 people; hundreds more were hired as contract workers. Total compensation and bene ts for the year reached nearly $146.2 million. In addition to direct payroll, millions of dollars go toward goods, services, and taxes every year. In 2013 alone, we paid over $21.8 million in royalties to governments and third parties. Coeur focuses on hiring its workforce from local communities and providing those employees with training that will afford them sustained success into the future. While a majority of our workforce is non- unionized, 10% of our employees are members of a labor union, all of whom work at our San Bartolomé mine in Bolivia.
A COMMITMENT TO WORKFORCE TRAINING AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
In addition to hiring local and indigenous people, Coeur provides job training to ensure sustainable and transferable skills.
At our San Bartolomé mine in Bolivia, over 98% of the workforce is Bolivian, 85% of which are from the local Potosi community. Of the local employees and contractors, 15% are members of the Ayllu Jesus de Machaca.
Ongoing worker training seeks to make local Potosi community members an even larger percentage of our employee base.
Indigenous Ayllu workers are part of a training and development program designed to enhance worker
