success story

~ ECOMUL partners working at Coeur’s San Bartolomé operation.
Coeur’s commitment to sustainable development can be seen in our partnership with Empresa Comunitaria Multiactiva (ECOMUL), an Ayllu Jesus de Machaca- owned company, to provide an equitable source of income and employment for the indigenous Ayllu community members in Bolivia. Together, we are establishing a company that will provide a variety of construction management services to Coeur’s San Bartolomé operation. It is a new experience for the Ayllu as we work together to be successful.
ECOMUL is governed by a board of directors including Ayllu authorities who, in turn, are responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the partnership are carried out successfully. The agreement between Coeur and ECOMUL stipulates that all contracts be awarded through the newly formed organization rather than directly to individual community members. The board
not only provides a high level of transparency in business operations, but also collaborates with various stakeholders regarding cultural matters and indigenous territorial management. Its objective is to grow the business into a leading construction company by providing high-quality services to regional public and private institutions. In addition to supporting a variety of infrastructure projects within the community, ECOMUL has also been successful in hiring teachers to offer technical courses at the Chalviri Central School.
When community members have the opportunity to direct their future and take ownership in improvement projects that bene t their people, everybody wins. Coeur will continue building partnerships like this in order to provide lasting, sustainable community development well into the future.
