“The county has bene ted from the increase in sales and mining taxes, but Coeur really went above and beyond by funding the projects to facilitate reorganizing not just the chamber, but also the Pershing County Economic Development Authority (PCEDA). The county is now in a position to take the reigns and create our future. We see this as a giant step towards community
sustainability.”
The Rochester mine’s story of renewal is one of the best in our history. It began operations with a projected ve‐year mine life, and 28 years later, it is positioned once again to be an important contributor to the Pershing County economy and community and a signi cant and growing asset for Coeur.
Due to economic conditions, the mine halted active mining in 2007. With successful permitting in place, mining resumed to full production at Rochester in 2011, returning over 250 people to work. A key component of the resumption of mining activities was the completion of an updated community assessment. Meeting with various stakeholder groups, Coeur updated a pro le of Lovelock’s strengths and needs, then shared the ndings with the community at large, one of which was the need to strengthen the organizational capacity of both the local economic development authority and the chamber of commerce.

stakeholders to resurrect the economic development group and reorganize the chamber of commerce. The focus of both organizations’ new business strategies became the growth, retention, and sustainability of local businesses well into the future.
Today, the Pershing County Economic Diversi cation Authority and the Pershing County Chamber of Commerce are important, respected entities – not only in Lovelock, but also in the surrounding communities. The organizations work with city- and county-wide stakeholders to promote the area as a great place to live, work, and play. Future planning will diversify the economy of the region by seeking out investments in new industry rather than depending solely on mining. Coeur’s support of the community is ongoing, with our management team holding membership and board positions in both organizations.
